How do I give a great PowerPoint presentation?
Powerpoint is very easy to use and offers a wide variety
of effects, animations, and sounds. It also offers some templates
and default color combinations that are good. You can use
a professional template or
design your own. However, bear in mind that too many different
animations or sounds are not good. They only distract people
from your ideas.
1. Practise often.
2. Look at your target audience, do nott keep looking
at your notes.
3. Make short notes if you have to (don't write essays!).
4. Ask questions to audience and give rewards if answer
is correct (depends on what type of presentation, ie formal
or informal)
5. Use only a few words and lots of images on slides.
6. Each screen should be readable in a few seconds
(you can always go back afterwards).
7. The projected image will probably be somewhat brighter
than what you see in your monitor. Consider this when choosing
colors. Avoid for instance blue on red, which is impossible
to read. If in doubt, stick with the pre-designed color combinations.
8. A good transition effect is worth more than 100
animations.
9. Do not make text appear letter by letter! It's annoying
and more difficult to read.
